THE RETROMETER - SUMMER 2006 EDITION
RETRO TV
Noel Edmonds
You might justifiably (and regretfully) consider that the hirsute one hasn't been away from our screens long enough to merit inclusion here. Nonetheless, given where his career was at before making a success of "Deal or No Deal" this qualifies as a resurrection of almost biblical proportions.
RETRO FASHION
Straight Leg Jeans
Yes - time to ditch those flared hipsters ladies and make like it's 1978 all over again. Probably not for those who have too much advantage over Kate Moss in the child-bearing hips stakes though.
RETRO MUSIC
Soft Rock
Skipping hand in hand with the Guilty Pleasures phenomenon (club nights where punters dance shamelessly to the likes of Kim Carnes and ELO) bands such as Orson (pictured) revive the out-of -your -face limp harmonies of Seventies AOR. Cue irate 40-something fathers yelling at their kids to turn off "that melodic shite and put some Cradle of Filth on".
RETRO MOVIES
Eighties TV Shows
Having exhausted just about every dodgy TV series from the 60s and 70s that had clung on to the collective consciousness Hollywood has found another barrel to scrape. Watch out for big screen versions of the A Team, Knightrider and Miami Vice coming soon to a cinema near you. Don't say you haven't been warned.
RETRO FASHION
The Nineties Revival.
Yes you read that right. Just seven years after the end of the 20th century's final decade its sartorial imprint is mooted for another pop at the coconut shy. Just as soon as anyone works out what it is.
